Welcome to Heartfelt Family Rules! Here, it’s all about building a foundation of connection and trust that grows with your family.

From the beginning, my partner and I knew we wanted to take a gentle parenting approach—one rooted in empathy and connection—but it hasn’t always been easy. Navigating big emotions, challenging behaviors, and balancing patience with boundaries has stretched us in ways we never imagined.

Early in my journey as a new mom, I searched for ways to balance the joys and chaos of raising a family. In the quiet hours after my son went to sleep, I found comfort in needle felting—crafting simple shapes like stars and hearts. These little creations became symbols of the love and values I wanted to nurture in our home.

Like many parents do, we started to face what some might call “behavior issues” (which were really just normal developmental milestones!) Traditional methods like time-outs weren’t working for us and we began to realize our son needed more than consequences—he needed conversations, understanding, and guidance to navigate his emotions.

What began as a simple list of values on our fridge evolved into a color-coded system where hearts symbolized concepts like kindness, respect, and teamwork. The felt hearts made these ideas tangible, turning difficult moments into opportunities for connection and growth. I watched in awe as the pace of each conflict slowed when my little one held a felt heart in his hand, grounding us all in what mattered most.

This isn’t a perfect, one-size-fits-all solution, but it’s brought a little magic to our home. As a regular mom on this ever-evolving journey, I’m excited to share what has worked for us in the hope that it can inspire and support your family, too.

With Love,
Megan
